Certainly not shopping destinations, Chaloklum and Haad Mae Haad beaches have the basics such as suntan lotion, groceries and beach accessories but for anything more specialist such as handicrafts, textiles and souvenirs you’ll have to head down the road to Thongsala and its myriad of markets, shops and boutiques.

As Chaloklum is a working fishing village one thing that you won’t have any problem finding is fishing gear. Look around the pier.

Selling everything from bras to beer, rain ponchos to reggae T-shirts, from cooking oil to Coca-Cola, Chaloklum Supermarket is neon-lit and about as organised as a chimpanzees’ tea party. Still, there’s a cheerful ‘Happy New Year’ sign over the entrance and with the amount of goods on offer here you’re bound to find that extra-special something you were looking for.
